Living Light Church began in the early 1970's as a home Bible
study and prayer group made up of people who were hungry to grow
in their relationship with Christ. In 1975, the church formally
incorporated with the state of Minnesota and established a board
of elders.
In the early years, Living Light Church met in rented facilities
in the Red Cross Building and Lincoln School building. The church's
first pastor was Rev. Denver Jones who came in 1982. The church
saw a need to be affiliated with a larger covering and became
affiliated with Ascension Fellowships International (A.F.I.) in
1986. A.F.I. provides relational oversight, counsel and trans-local
ministry to churches nation wide.
In December of 1988, the church purchased it's first facility
at 627 West Wabasha St. from the Grace Brethren congregation.
Pastor R. Sonny Misar came on staff in 1989 to assist Pastor Jones
and to assume the senior pastorate as Pastor Jones moved into
a trans-local ministry. The congregation outgrew it's facility
and in October 1991 purchased the historic church at 402 Main
St. from the Seventh Day Adventist congregation. As ministry needs
increased, additional staff pastors were added and again the reality
of needing a larger facility was before us. Gripped by the vision
that more people needed the Lord, plans were made to purchase
and develop a four acre site on Highway 14 in Winona. Many people
gave and worked sacrificially and on Easter Sunday, 2000, the
first service was held in our present facility.
Our prayer is that Jesus Christ would be glorified and that He
would continue to use us to advance his work on earth!
